The Paperbag Poster

I made this around July when I was staying in Seattle with friends and pretty depressed.  Its a trader joe's bag.  I am probably going to make some prints when I can afford to so if your interested in buying one day you can email me about it.

Somi and Penelope's room at the Purple House

Around a year ago Somi (11) and Penelope (6) came from their grandparents house is Minnesota to live at the Purple House here in Oakland.  I was worried the transition from a christian household in the suburbs to one of Oaklands historical collective houses was going to be hard on them, so in preparation for their arrival I painted this mural in their room.  I didn't have a whole lot of time, and I know it's cheesy, but it was fun and the kids liked it.  The girls are still here and are totally comfortable with their lives in Oakland.

Comic for Graceless

Enola D! writes a zine called No Gods No Mattress, and one part from her 15th issue is going to be in Graceless Magazine (a journal for radical gothic culture).  So I did this comic to accompany her article.  N.G.N.M. #15 can be aquired at: Enola D! P.O. Box 3936 Berkeley Ca 94703, and I'm not sure when the second issue of Graceless will be available.  I will probably do at least one more illustration to go with a record review.
The part of her article I chose to illustrate is: "I really liked their sound.  They reminded me of early Nine Inch Nails, but with only the worst lines.  The lyric writing was not that great in my opinion  but I could overlook it and just look forward to buying their CD when the vocalist said, "'This song is for the ladies.  All you women who have an affinity for...sexual behavior.  You know who you are, don't hide."'  And then sang a song with the lyrics: "'Is this a cry for help?  Blah blah blah blah blaaaaahh get down on your knees and I'll give it to you"'.

Other Slingshot Stuff...

This still isn't all of it, but here is some of the other illustration I did for the 2012 Spiral Slingshot Organizer...

Slingshot Organizer: back cover

The 2012 Slingshot organizer is out, and I did a little bit of illustration for the spiral size.  All I have scanned right now is the back cover, though.  I was given the back cover because my drawing was considered depressing and negative by some of the collective members, but I was just trying to roll with the 2012 theme.  Anyways, I'll share the rest when I can.

Maximum Rock and Roll Review

From the November 2011 issue:

DREAMS OF DONUTS #12 / $1 US $2 International ppd / trades accepted
 5.5 x 8.5 - copied - 24 pgs
Very earnest, handwritten and illustrated zine detailing a slice of life from the author about living in Oakland, going to see local bands she likes, rescuing a dog, and being in a relationship.  This issue focuses largely on her relationship and its expiration, then her means of coping with it.  Most interestingly, she discusses examples of prejudice examples of prejudice against parents within her community and her own reticence and nervousness about dating a parent as well.  Her illustration is endearing and memorable and the handwriting shifts styles according to the section in a way that subconsciously reinvigorates the reader's interest with each new topic discussed.  Apparently, the next issue will be written during and inspired by the author's travels and it should be interested to see how she transcribes life on the road into another delightful zine. Occupy Oakland!

So I haven't updated in forever, part of it is cuz I don't have a digital camera, some is cuz I haven't really finished much art lately.  I've been back in Oakland for good (at least for now), and lately have spent most of my time at the Oakland Occupation in Oscar Grant Plaza.  I was hard at work doing various things within our camp, as well as painting loads of banners.  However, the cops came a couple days ago, totally stomped us, and took or destroyed all of our stuff, so here is the only banner I have to show.  On the bright side, we tore down the fences they put up around Oscar Grant Plaza and are back in!

Razorcake Review

I mailed the Dreams of Donuts #1-10 anthology to Razorcake a while ago and totally forgot all about it.  But they sent me an email today letting me know that they recently reviewed it, so if you want to read it you can do so here.  The ordering info won't apply anymore, since I'm not living in Oakland and my masters are in storage, but I will post when I am able to do mail order again.

Painting

The weather has been snowing and I've been trapped inside a lot of the time, so here's a new painting I finished today.

Dreams of Donuts #12!

I finally finished Dreams of Donuts #12 a while on a two week vacation in Sacramento before I took off traveling.  Now I'm out in Bozeman, Montana, trapped by the gnarly weather but fortunate enough to be at Villa Villikula with dear friends and loads of homebrew.  Since I'm out and about and can't really do zine orders or stock any stores, my friend Ryan has helped me scan the whole zine, so you can just read it right here.  I've been working on #13 a lot already, so expect it soon.  Enjoy!
